The set up for dramatic studio lighting is easier than you might think. It’s a great technique for a portrait or interesting photo a green leaf.

These photographs were taken using only a speed light and proper settings to create studio quality photographs that appear as if they have a black background. For the portrait I chose to position the speed light on the side of her face to create a dramatic feel. The leaf photographs were taken in a greenhouse that had all sorts of plants including a palm tree. The last photo was taken in an office on campus; it is an old missile shell. Each of these images utilized lighting to create dynamic and dramatic photographs.

These photographs were all edited using Lightroom. Focusing mostly on exposure, contrast, darkness, and shadow I was able to enhance the dramatic lighting to create even more interesting photographs.
